Today, anti-mass-incarceration collective Forgive Everyone Co released their "Free Angela" collection to commemorate their 2 year anniversary.
Featuring a tee, tote bag, and denim jacket, the small collection features the an Angela Davis quote front and center with a large artistic rendition of the popular 1970s "Free Angela" buttons popular during the height of her activism.
Like their Decarcerate release, Forgive Everyone Co. is donating 20% of all proceeds to the COVID-19 emergency bail fund by the National Bail Network, which is bailing people at risk of contracting the novel coronavirus out of jails and detention centers across the country. To date they have raised hundreds of dollars, enough to potentially bail out multiple people in some counties.
Coronavirus is an ever growing problem, and people in jails and prisons are sitting ducks due to the lack of ability to social distance or quarantine. The most recent data from The Marshall Project shows that there has been almost 10,000 cases of the novel coronavirus among incarcerated populations in the United States. In Michigan, where Forgive Everyone Co is based, 40+ incarcerated people have already died from the virus. It is increasingly urgent to decarcerate everyone most at risk.
Forgive Everyone Co's mission is to build empathy for the full human experience of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated men and women. This collection is the next step in the fulfillment of that mission.
