Julius Jones! An Innocent Man on Death Row
UPDATE 8/27/21: Julius Could Be Executed If We Don't Act (From the Julius Jones Coalition)
"Earlier this week, Oklahoma’s attorney general requested an October 28 execution date for Julius Jones.
This occurred despite Julius having a commutation hearing scheduled for September 13th to present the mounting evidence that proves his innocence.
It is truly shocking—and, quite frankly, outrageous and cruel—that the promise of a fair hearing, which former AG Mike Hunter agreed Julius has a right to, might now be short-circuited because of this rush to resume executions.
So today, I need every single person who signed this petition to contact the Oklahoma Pardon & Parole Board and demand that they keep Julius’ September 13th commutation hearing. This fight has never been more urgent. Julius’ life is quite literally on the line and we need as many people as possible to make their voices heard.

"Julius Jones is on death row in Oklahoma despite compelling evidence that he was wrongfully convicted and that racial bias infected his case.
Julius’ co-defendant, the key witness against him, fit the only eyewitness description of the shooter, while Julius did not. Yet, Julius’ underfunded and inexperienced public defenders failed to cross-examine this co-defendant about the six different and inconsistent statements he gave to the police after his arrest.
They also failed to put on evidence showing that Julius’ co-defendant was likely the actual shooter and was testifying against Julius to avoid the death penalty.
In exchange for his testimony against Julius, Julius’ co-defendant was released from prison after only 15 years on a 30-year sentence.
Attorneys also failed to present to the jury powerful evidence from several eyewitnesses that places Julius at his parents’ home at the time of the murder."
